Frog I'm loosing my place on this earth. Animals step on me. Birds eat me. Man drains my ponds. I have no home. When I leave, everything will be changed... forever.		Shasta Bear Sky Spirit came to earth and formed Mount Shasta. He brought his family to this new home. He made Grizzly and placed him at the base. When Sky Spirit's daughter became lost, Grizzly found her and shared his home. There she grew, wed, and gave birth to a new creation. These were the ancestors of the tribes. Today the bear on my doorpost guards me. I must guard the Grizzly.
Trompe Loeil Wallet Oil on Canvas 4" x 5"	These two wallet looking paintings are for a local Black Tie & Blue Jean annual fund raiser. The theme for the auction is Western so I thought I would try the same trompe loeil effect for a leather look that I use on my Northwest Coast Native American works. Native American Designs

These are "trompe loeil" acrylic paintings on canvas, not actual wood carvings. I used to use a computerized machine to carve these designs in wood and each one had a number the same as a limited edition print would have had. Now you will find a date on the back of each piece that represent my re-visitation of that mythical figure and the day I completed that particular painting. He was a great hunter. but he was swept under the sea, and taken to the village of whales. Now his Orca. He visits us today. Look at his dorsal and know that he watches us.	Owl I have waited long. I listen patiently with my soul. Now the Owl calls my name. I am weak and old no longer. He guides me to the other side.
Raven Today I made a friend He is from Eagle Tribe. He hunts well and has great humor. His son will be like him. I am pleased. My new daughter will have a good mate. * (It is tradition for Raven Tribe and Eagle Tribe to marry. It is forbidden for Ravens to marry Ravens and Eagles to marry Eagles.)	Eagle There is an island out beyond the surf. The Raven Tribe lives there. The Girl who will be my mate will be born there in a few days. Because I am Eagle, I must wait for her, or I can never be happy with my life. This my father has told me today. * (It is traditionfor Eagle Tribe and Raven Tribe to marry. It is forbidden for Eagles to marry Eagles and Ravens to marry Ravens.)	Facing Raven You have taken time for me today. Time from bringing Salmon up the river; Time from watching tides; Time from placing stars in the sky. You are going to play a trick on me. I see it in your eyes. I can not tell what it is. I am only honored that you take the time.
Spawning Salmon When my canoe was lost, I was punished. I took more than I could carry. You traveled far to reach me. I will be grateful for this. I will never waste again.	Salmon at the Dam Raven brought me to the sea. He guides me up the river when it is time. I used to willingly share my life with man. But now I am few, and they are many, and they have not learned to share the river. I asked the Raven, Is it possible man can live without nature? Maeona Urban's Biography

Maeona L. Urban was born in Portland, Oregon and is considered to be a self-taught artist, drawing from a natural ability as a third-generation artist and painter. I'm the one with the pearls. The other is my best buddy and husband since 1972, Ron.

Until recntly I have had two sides to my artistic interests. I paint with a classical realistic style. I try to give tribute to the teachings of my Grandmother for a love and respect of people and nature. I am also drawn to the artwork of the Pacific Northwest Coast native Americans, learning about their culture, and wanting to share what I have learned.

More recently I have joined with a plein air group and have been delighted by painting outdoors. I hope to use this site to share my work and to learn from you.
